A Boca Raton-based fund that owns, invests and manages portfolio companies in the communications infrastructure sector raised this week $150 million.
Digital Bridge, founded in 2013 by Marc Ganzi and Ben Jenkins, will use the capital to boost development of Andean Tower Partners, a provider of wireless communications infrastructure in the Andean region of Latin America.
The Andean Region requires investment in telecommunications infrastructure to meet mobile-data demand growth, according to a statement by Digital Bridge.
Participating investors include The Olayan Group, a private multinational investor and diversified commercial and industrial business in the Middle East, and Equity International, a Chicago-based investment firm focused on the emerging markets, founded by billionaire Sam Zell.
"In the telecom sector, the emerging markets look a lot like the U.S. did 15 years ago: Demand for mobile and internet service has overwhelmed supply,” Zell said. “We see this as a terrific opportunity.”
Digital Bridge has, to date, raised more than $5.2 billion in debt and equity financing to acquire and invest in the development of communications infrastructure businesses.
